Former White Sox Stars Robertson, Kahnle Lift Yankees to Wild Card Win

CLEVELAND OH- SEPTEMBER 30 Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Corey Kluber delivers a pitch to the plate during the second inning of the Major League Baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians

The Indians are back, but there's now a 6-foot-7, 280-pound baseball-bashing behemoth standing in their way.

The Yankees and Indians will get underway from Progressive Field on Thursday night as they begin the ALDS. This should prove to be an entertaining series.

Aaron Judge had Yankee Stadium rocking Tuesday night in the wild-card game, but had the NY faithful shaking their heads on Thursday.

The wild-card games are supposed to be low scoring, as teams pitch their aces in the win-or-go-home games. They trail the best-of-five series one game to none.

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (al-TOO'-vay) became the ninth player in major league history to homer three times in a postseason game, leading an 8-2 rout of Boston in Game 1 of the AL Division Series.

If anything, Francona's Game 1 pitching decision underscored the fact that there is more than one thoroughbred in the Indians' pitching stable. In addition, he hit a sacrifice fly during the next inning to score Ramirez and extend the Indians lead to four. He'll start Game 2 on Friday against CC Sabathia. In the bottom of the fourth, he hit a two-run home run over the right-field fence to put Cleveland ahead 3-0. In three starts vs. the Yankees this year, he is 3-0 with a 0.92 ERA. The Sox are notorious for working the starting pitchers and forcing the pitch counts to rise quickly and get into the bullpen. Adam Warren gave up a run but the relief corps gave the Yankees a chance to rally with a run allowed over 4.2 frames. Bauer himself took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and struck out eight while allowing only two hits.

Per Fangraphs, New York's relievers combined for a 9.2 WAR, enough to best the Indians' 8.6 mark and that of every other team. It is no secret that they rely on the long ball for the success of their offense. Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin have been a bit susceptible to giving up home runs this year, with 25 and 23 respectively.

The New York Yankees fell behind early and never recovered in a 4-0 defeat at the Cleveland Indians in game one of their ALDS.

"It's a good lineup", Sabathia said of the Indians. Gray's career record against Cleveland is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA. Here's Callaway on the Yankees...

There's a lot riding on that first game.

Francona is taking a gamble in the opener and starting Trevor Bauer, a 17-game victor during the regular season, in Game 1 instead of Kluber, who will start Game 2. Mainly at the plate. Especially after the Twins took some extra bases on Kipnis late in the season. Gomes has thrown out 24 of 33 potential base stealers and Perez has thrown out 13 of 17.

Even after missing almost a month with an injury, Gary Sanchez still had a 30+ home run season as a 24-year-old catcher. I know his knees hurt at times and they're a little creaky, but, no, he's a really good athlete and he can manipulate the ball. It felt like they were playing at the old stadium with how electric the crowd got when Gregorius, Brett Gardner and Judge went deep.

The Yankees and the Indians will make for a fun series to watch.

After a tighter-than-expected victory by the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, Travis Kelce complimented D.J. Swearinger and told him that the Washington Redskins just need to get healthy.
